On September 23, 2007 we celebrated our 25th anniversary as Smythe Street Cathedral. We also on that day launched our 10-year vision using the analogy of a ship setting sail. Using sailing terminology we divided our vision into four quadrants.
Each fall, we revisit our vision to see how we are doing. On the first year anniversary of our vision we looked at 1 Corinthians 9:19-27, where Paul says
“Run in such a way that you may win. Run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air.”
We are called to win by aiming and not swinging just at air. That is why we have a together vision. A vision that represents a united sense as to what our church needs to be about. In following years, we have also shared how the Holy Spirit has prompted us that in order to reach our vision we needed to “raise the level of risk” at Smythe Street Cathedral. We cannot HIT out target by waiting until we can play it 100% “safe”.
