We have all been very concerned about the plight of those who have been without shelter here in the city of Fredericton, especially over the past few months as the weather has turned colder. As you may have read or heard, the Anglican Diocese has made Bishop House available as a place of shelter for those who have been living on the streets. You can read about it here…Bishop House.
People in our city have mobilized with a unified effort to care for those who have been living in tents for the past several months. We too here at Smythe Street Church are happy to respond to this need. Our special offering, and gathering of resources, on the 2nd and the 9th of December are in direct conjunction with meeting the needs of those moving from the streets to Bishop House. We are partnering with the efforts being made in our city by social agencies, government and the faith community to place those who are homeless in a safe and warm shelter. The Community Action Group on Homelessness, Connect Fredericton and the Fredericton Downtown Community Health Centre, to name a few, are people we are glad to work with to make a difference for those in need. Along with addressing the needs of the homeless through these agencies, we are also working with Youth in Transition, where we will provide a special Christmas for 10 youth who are temporarily displaced and are living under the care of Chrysalis House.
This is truly a season for us to be the best church for the city. It is an opportunity to let our light shine by caring for those in need. For the next two Sundays – Dec. 2nd and 9th– we can respond directly to the needs of others by the giving of our money and resources in our annual Christmas in the City Offering which supports our Christmas initiatives and helping people through our Care Ministry account.
People in our surrounding neighbourhoods who are in need of care, shelter, clothing, food and other basic necessities of life.
Those moving off the streets into the shelter of Bishop House.
Youth at Chrysalis House (Youth in Transition) who are needing some care and provision at Christmas.
Individuals who are clients of the Fredericton Downtown Community Health Centre who in need of basic items.
Families connected with our church family who do not have the means to meet their needs during this time of year.

For the next two Sundays we will have a display table at the church where you can respond to a variety of needs. We can show our love and care for those in need by providing things such as boots, coats, personal items and more. Please email me if you would like to get a jump start on things. I can provide you with a list of thing we are planning to provide.
Thank you for your care for those in need. Together we are going to make a difference this Christmas and show the love God in tangible ways.
