Baptism is the first step to take when you have decided to become a follower of Jesus.
The story of how Saul of Tarsus came to follow Jesus is pretty incredible. In Acts 9 we read of Saul, a man who tried to crush the early Christian movement, trying to get Christians in prison and even witnessing an execution. While travelling to go after more Christians, he encounters Jesus while on the road and is struck blind. He goes to the next town and waits, and then a Christian goes and prays for him. We then read in Acts 9:18–19a (NIV) ,
“Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, and after taking some food, he regained his strength.”
After realizing who Jesus was and receiving his sight, the first thing Saul did was to be baptized. In the early church, and today, when people are ready not just to listen to Jesus, but to follow with their lives, the first step to take is to be baptized.
Baptism is a powerful act that reflects the burial and resurrection of Jesus, the washing of sin and commitment made to follow the Lord. We would love to talk to you about baptism if you’ve not been baptized. We are planning on having baptisms soon. If you would like to be baptized or have more questions, please contact one of the pastors by contacting the church office at 458-8206, Ext. 21 or email@example.com.
