As you are probably aware, there have been recent changes since the email update that we sent Thursday afternoon (see below).  The office of the NB Chief Medical Officer of Health has requested that gatherings of 150 or more be cancelled or postponed until they are better able to determine the risk of the Covid-19 virus in the province.

Obviously, we are going to cooperate, which means that we are postponing our regular Sunday morning services this Sunday, March 15.

At this time, other smaller groups are still going ahead. We will still be having our Swahili service and High School home groups this Sunday. Ministries like Alpha, Circle Groups, Worship Academy, Youth Alpha and others are still happening at this point.

Our church leadership is working on future ways to engage our congregation, should the situation continue beyond this Sunday.

Throughout history, the Church has always grown stronger when faced with adversity. God is faithful, and we see this as an opportunity for us as a church to discover better ways to grow as a caring community extending God’s love to each other and our world.

We will keep you posted as the situation changes and our plans develop. For the most recent developments, we encourage you to regularly check the Announcements page here on our website, and follow us on social media.

As a community we are aware and concerned with the effects the Coronavirus (COVID-19) is having around the world. Our hearts and our prayers go out to the individuals, families, communities and businesses that are being impacted.

We are grateful that to date, there have been relatively few cases in Canada and no confirmed cases in New Brunswick. Please pray for our health organisations that they may have God’s wisdom as they try to make the best decisions for the safety of our communities.

In these kinds of situations, we all have our own different ways of reacting and we tend to form our own personal opinions based on the sometimes-limited information we have. It’s very important as a community to try our best to follow the guidelines and advice given to us by those in positions of leadership who possess the best information and necessary expertise.

As a church we are trying our best to also make wise decisions with the best interest and safety of our community and congregation.  For that reason, we are encouraging you to follow the recommendations given to us by the appropriate ministry departments.

This past Monday, March 9th, the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development sent out a memo requiring all children, students, staff, volunteers and family members who have returned from international travel after March 8th, to avoid any public school, early learning facility or school District offices for fourteen (14) days from the date of their return to New Brunswick.

On Wednesday, March 11th, to protect seniors and other vulnerable people, the Chief Medical Officer of Health also said that visitors who have travelled outside the country in the last 14 days are restricted from entering long-term care homes, nursing homes and seniors’ residences. Those who have travelled outside the country in the last 14 days are also restricted from entering health-care facilities to visit those most at risk for severe illness.

The official recommendation from the Province of New Brunswick is that all travelers returning to Canada from outside the country are asked to self-monitor for 14 days for symptoms such as fever, cough or difficulty breathing. If you experience any of those symptoms you should isolate yourself as quickly as possible and limit your contact with others and call 811 or your health-care provider.

With these recommendations in mind, if you or your family have returned from international travel after March 8th we are encouraging you and your family to stay away from all our public church gatherings for 14 days from the date of your return and self-monitor for the above mentioned symptoms. If you experience any of those symptoms please follow the above recommendations.

We all also have a responsibility and a role to play in maintaining a healthy community by taking simple actions like frequent hand washing, staying home when sick and covering your cough and sneezes.

As a church we cannot control or police who is or is not following these guidelines. For the safety of our church community and the prevention of the spread of this virus, we strongly encourage everyone to follow these recommendations.

Feel free to contact our church if you have questions or need our care. You can visit our church online to keep in touch with what’s happening or to listen to our Sunday sermons.

As believers here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • In times like these we are to remind each other that God is faithful. God said, “I will never leave you and I will never forsake you!” (Heb.13.5b)
  • In times like these we are to pray. Pray for those affected, pray for our leaders, pray for our community, pray for our church and how this will affect us.
  • In times like these we are to take care of each other and those in need. If you know of anyone in our church that is affected by this virus and needs our help as a church community let us know.
  • In times like these we are to be careful to avoid being critical and negative. We are all trying to make the best decisions for our church family.
  • In times like these the leadership of our church and I could really use your extra prayers for wisdom.

“God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in times of need. Therefore we will not fear.” (Psalm 46:1–2a) Praise the Lord!
