Alpha began at a church called Holy Trinity Brompton (HTB) in London in 1977, it was taken by Nicky Gumbel in 1990 and repositioned as a course for those outside the church. The number of people attending Alpha at HTB grew quickly into the hundreds and attracted the attention of other churches across denominations seeking to find an effective tool for sharing the Good News of Jesus.
Now all over the world millions of people have tried Alpha and it has been translated into 112 different languages. The Alpha Talks have been repackaged for today’s audience in the Alpha Film Series and the Alpha Youth Series was created to reach a younger generation with the Gospel.
Alpha Canada comes along side churches to help them share the good news of Jesus across our country. They have also been a key part of crating new content and producing current versions of Alpha for the global church. Alpha has a heart to help everyone and provides all of its resources for free to the church.
In Fredericton, we have relationship with Elwood Mean, who works with donor development for Alpha, raising funds to support their ministry. Kristy Short, who attends Smythe Street Church, is a Senior Advisor supporting churches as they learn to use Alpha to reach their communities.

Smythe Street Church gives to support this ministry every month. Beyond your regular giving, you can give at our church to support the ongoing ministry of Alpha Canada. Designate Alpha Canada or Alpha (Kristy Short) or Alpha (Elwood Mean) when giving at our giving centre, by e-transfer or when giving online on our Giving Page.
Note: giving only designated Alpha will go towards our church’s Alpha outreach programs.
