It’s that time of year again and we are looking to hire 4 individuals for summer positions. The first 3 listed positions are through the Canada Summer Jobs Grant and will each be for 8 weeks @ 35 hours per week. To be eligible for one of these three positions, you must be:
- Between 15 and 30 years of age.
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
GRAPHIC & MEDIA ARTS COORDINATOR
Duties will include:
- Light programming/sound set up for worship services and events
- Video script creation in ProPresenter software for worship services and events
- Organize, plan and lead worship teams/sets/equipment for Kids/Youth camp
- Prepare worship teams for Sunday services and prayer meetings (scheduling, charts)
- Preparing graphics for announcements
- Social media scheduling
- Updating Planning Center Online

OFFICE ASSISTANT
Duties will include:
- Manage incoming/outgoing calls and voicemails.
- Attend to office visitors.
- Help manage and maintain a proper church filing system.
- Take care of church correspondence when necessary.
- Help keep church records in proper order
- Help maintain office supplies and equipment.
- Help with data entry or any extra church projects when necessary.

COMMUNITY CARE WORKER
The ideal job applicant will have experience/education related to assessing needs and matching resources for individuals/families experiencing poverty. They must work well in a team environment as well as possess the ability to work autonomously. Good problem-solving skills and people skills will be needed. They must have a recent Vulnerable Sector Check. They must have a class 5 Driver’s License.
The applicant will have the opportunity to work in the area of Community Care both within the church congregation, the greater Fredericton area, and touch on global care. In coordination with Smythe Street Church staff, the student will be working with identified vulnerable populations. This would include newcomers to Canada, the elderly, individuals experiencing homelessness/near homelessness, and will take part in assessing basic needs of individuals walking through poverty and organizing provisions such as food, housing, and supportive volunteer help.
To further this, the applicant will work with the Care Ministry and key Smythe Street Church staff to establish a system of needs assessment and appropriate resource matching for future care needs. The applicant will also be working with agencies in the city who are addressing homelessness and near homelessness.
The successful applicant will become familiar with our Fredericton Housing First Fund microhome units on Jaffrey Street and will be working with volunteers in managing this property, creating an environment for successful tenancy of Housing First Clients.
An opportunity will be provided to attend the Community Advisory Board summit in Moncton this year happening May 15th & 16th. This 2 day collaborative event will address homelessness across NB.
Duties will include:
- Meeting with individual clients and families to identify needs and resources. The meetings may occur in the form of home visits which will be done along with Care Ministry staff, at Smythe Street Church, or over the phone.
- Carrying out the practical tasks of securing and delivering needed items such as food cards, gas cards, and utility payments, or any other service or resource deemed to be necessary for those who have been approved for assistance.
- Networking with local and global organizations in addressing care needs.

Although not part of the Canada Summer Jobs grant, we are also looking for a NextGen Assistant. Unlike the previous three positions, this position will be 12 weeks @ 35 hours per week.
NEXTGEN ASSISTANT
Duties will include:
- Planning, scheduling, preparation for weekly children & youth programs.
- Preparation, leadership, and organization for upcoming fall programs.
- Attend and assist with summer camps.
- Oversee administrative tasks within the NextGen Ministry.
The applicant should also have a love for, and an ability to connect with, children and youth. He/she should be able to lead people, step into a variety of roles, and make quick & timely responsible decisions when needed, collaborate with team members and be relational and approachable.
